Thursday 8 January!

Hello all,

Welcome back to a new year, a new term. We hope you all have had some good, healthy time off.

We’ll be following our usual plan of keeping familiar pieces in our current repertoire, whilst adding some new ones. The list is getting long, eh?

To that end, we’ll revisit the Purcell “I Attempt From Love’s Sickness”, which gets the voice & breath going, as well as “Rest Sad Eyes,” that lovely Jeremy Rawson piece we worked on under lockdown.  And, because I (Carol here) REALLY WANT TO, we’re going to try the Thomas Weelkes madrigal “The Nightingale.”  I am determined!

We have a new round to learn, “Be Welcome”, music by Schubert.

So please do download those if you don’t have them.

Following is this week’s list.

ROUNDS:

  • Be Welcome
  • Gaudeamus Hodie
  • Rose, rose

PIECES:

  • Ave Verum (Mozart)
  • I Attempt from Love’s Sickness
  • The Nightingale
  • Over the Rainbow
  • Rest, Sad Eyes
  • The Lord is my Shepherd

Once again, we’re probably too ambitious, but better to aim high, eh?  And thanks to the eager beavers who have already paid in subscription fees.

Hope to see lots of happy, not hung-over, faces next week.
