The Brighton recital….

To those of you that were able to make it to my recital with Martin Isepp yesterday, many thanks! Carol and I sincerely enjoyed our time with you there and afterward at our house.  Here’s a snippet from the vaults for the anoraks among you.  The great pianist Kenny Clayton was in the audience yesterday.  For those of you who don’t know the name, Kenny is a legendary pianist, musician, composer and arranger whom I am pleased and proud to call friend and musical collaborator.

In 2009 we recorded an album of American songbook standards together with the Kenny Clayton Trio.  It’s a wonderful album (if I do say so myself) titled The Song is You but one of the tracks that we recorded that was left off the album (due to concept issues, not quality) was the one I’m including here––it’s one of Kenny’s strokes of brilliance (I’ve been privileged to witness many!) and it combines Schumann’s Im wunderschönen monat mai (the first song you heard yesterday) with Harry Warren’s lovely You’ll Never Know, a song that I still have trouble performing without the embarrassment of weeping.  Anyway, it’s here for your enjoyment.  Thanks again, my friends and thank you Kenny!
With love, PK

  2. Just found out how to listen to the recordings of the Brighton concert.
    Wow!
Not being a techie I thought it was just a wee snippet.
Now I have found the full recordings!
    Just gorgeous!

My folks would have liked to have come but they had someone arriving that day to stay with them but are very keen to hear you perfom so this will be a lovely treat for them.

    next time!

  3. Hi Paul and Carol
Well that was a beautiful perfomance. I think I enjoyed it more than Hammerwood. The acoustics were so lovely in the church and the Barber was gorgeous . It helped that it was warmer too!!!!!
I realise this could be a one off – I hope not as next time those of us in Brighton and Hove will have to make sure it gets more widely publicised if only amongst those we know. I was kicking myself because I know there would be at least a handful of people I know who would have enjoyed this and come along!

Ps the snippet of the concert was lovely wasnt long enough!
But it sounded like a really good recording- more please!!!!-
